Sailing and Relationship Therapy: A Digital Nomad at Sea
This post was written in English.

I’m in my fourth year sailing around the world. Because I had a lot of time during cyclone season in Indonesia, I started working as a relationship therapist again.
Rowing to work in the morning
First I worked with sailors in Lombok. Every morning I rowed to their boat. And realized how special this was. On my left I would sometimes see a turtle swimming, and on my right the beach. I rediscovered how much I love helping people with their relationships. And how naturally it comes to me.
Hope again after the first session
It’s rewarding work when I see that, after just the first session, there is hope again and people choose to go for their relationship. While in the days before, they were planning to end their circumnavigation.
The work travels with me
After that I worked a lot online with people from the Netherlands. When I left Indonesia, I thought I wouldn’t pick it up again until the end of my circumnavigation. But in Mauritius, too, sailors asked for my help. And in Réunion I gained new clients from the Netherlands as well. And existing clients sometimes come back for an individual check-up or for a joint relationship tune-up.
Sailing and therapy now go seamlessly together
I notice how my work as a relationship therapist integrates seamlessly with my sailing journey. It just takes a bit of flexibility on both sides when I go sailing for a while. But I notice that everyone is perfectly fine with that. And now that I have a Starlink Mini, I’ve actually become a digital nomad.
