Embarking on a New Adventure: Ocean Fishing on the Horizon

For months, the idea of casting a line into the vast expanse of the ocean had been lingering in my mind. The allure of reeling in a prized catch from the depths below beckoned me. Yet uncertainty held me back. Would I be able to navigate the waters of ocean fishing alone on my sailboat?

A Bold Step: Into the Fishing Shop

After much deliberation, I finally gathered the courage to step foot into the local fishing shop. With a sense of determination, I approached the counter, where two regulars in wheelchairs awaited my inquiry.

Expert Advice: Navigating the Challenges

The ex-marine, now an angling expert, regarded me kindly before offering his advice. He explained the potential challenges of catching large fish like MahiMahi, Wahoo, or Tuna, warning of the immense pulling power they possess. His words resonated with me, stirring a sense of caution within.

Voicing Concerns: A Candid Exchange

In a hushed tone, I expressed my apprehension about reeling in such formidable creatures. Admitting that I was venturing into this endeavor alone. The response from the other customers was unexpected yet insightful – “big fish also bite small bait,” one of them remarked, prompting a brief exchange of banter among the group.

Seeking Community: Online Exploration

With gratitude for the guidance received, I thanked the angling expert and made my exit from the shop, the jingle of the bell signaling my departure. Determined to gather more insight into the world of ocean fishing, I turned to the online community for advice.

Community Wisdom: A Wealth of Knowledge

Joining the ‘fishing departures 2022’ WhatsApp group, I posed my question. As a consequence I received a sparking a flood of responses filled with tips, links, and practical experiences. As I delved deeper into the wealth of information provided, I realized that my journey into ocean fishing was not just about catching fish, but about embracing the process of learning and discovery.

Setting Sail: Ready for the Adventure Ahead

With newfound knowledge and a community of fellow enthusiasts by my side, I eagerly embarked on this new chapter, ready to explore the depths of the ocean and all it had to offer.

A Reluctant Start: Overcoming Fear and Hesitation

Despite my enthusiasm and preparation, I must admit that even today, I have not yet fished at sea. The thought of cutting open a fish, seeing it bleed, and the physical effort of lifting it on board fills me with a sense of unease. This hesitation is compounded by the profound beauty I witness while snorkeling or diving – the vibrant colors, the graceful movements of the fish – leaving me reluctant to disrupt their serene existence. For now, my journey into ocean fishing remains paused, as I grapple with the ethical and emotional complexities it entails.
