Like a fish in the water. Or not?

After a few months of deliberating whether or not I want to catch fish in the ocean, I plucked up all my courage and entered the fishing shop.

“I am looking for a spool of fishing line to catch MahiMahi, Wahoo or Tuna on my sailboat on the ocean.”

The two regulars in wheelchairs at the counter wait in silence.

The ex-marine, now an angling expert, looks at me kindly and waits a moment before he answers: well, I don’t sell a reel like that and if you want to catch tuna and it bites, you suddenly have a few hundred kilos of pulling power behind your boat. . You can’t pull that in by hand, then you’ll cut the fishing line through your hands. Everything breaks. I don’t want that on my conscience.”

In a low voice I say: ‘I actually hope not to catch such a big fish. I’m just alone on the boat.”

After another silence, a fourth man replied: ‘big fish also bite small bait’. The men in the ‘chairs’ joke to each other for a moment and then look at me expectantly.

I turn back to the man behind the counter. Thank you for the information. I’m going to look into it some more.

I leave the store in silence and the bell lets me know that I have left the building.

Not wanting to catch a single hole, I immediately grab my phone and address the ‘fishing departures 2022’ WhatsApp group. And ask my question here. Before I know it, I receive all kinds of tips, links and practical experience that sometimes support each other and sometimes contradict each other.

And so I have a new topic to delve into further.
